I recently completed a bungee for the first time and I can truly say it was a unique experience. The rush, the fear, the exhilaration! All of which have made me want to pursue other new experiences and set myself goals to make it happen. In this article I’ll take you through my bungee jumping adventure, from before the jump right thought to reflecting on what I’d just done.
So I’d decided I wanted to give it a go and the first step was to figure out what type of jump I was going to go for. After looking at jumps over rivers, off bridges, in the dark and off super high raised hydraulic platforms I went for a bridge jump.
Even though I’d been fully briefed about what to do and what to expect, it’s fair to say I was terrified just before I took the plunge. The expert was great, though, keeping me focussed on what I was doing and reassuring me the whole time. Just before I leapt I felt a strange sense of calm wash over me as I looked out onto the horizon and prepared myself.
The countdown is something I’ll never forget, just like the incredible buzz when I finally dropped off the bridge. The speed of the fall and adrenaline rush are feelings that will always stay with me, as will the relief when the bungee cord snapped into action and I floated around above the river.
In the moments after the cord did its thing and I bobbed around for a bit, I was exhilarated and very proud of myself. At that point I made a commitment to search out new things and make plans to re-enact that sense of excitement, achievement and satisfaction. Since the jump I’ve started to look at a range of different experiences that will help me satisfy my new found desire to try new activities.
There’s no stopping me now. I want to try many different types of bungee jumping and other fun-filled experiences. I’m planning to drive a supercar, jump out of a plane, race round the track in an F1 car, fly a plane and give zorbing a go!
I’m making new plans, saving money and setting goals to tick off, as the bungee jump has really shown me what I’m capable of and what’s out there to experience. It won’t all be adrenaline seeking, though. I also plan to learn a new sport, maybe golf or horse riding, go on an adventure weekend and even treat myself to some pampering!
